The Future of Aylmer Library: Relocation Proposal
Overview
Elgin County is planning to move the Aylmer Library from the Old Town Hall to a new location. Right now, the County is asking the public for their thoughts on relocating the library to the East Elgin Community Complex (EECC). The review of the EECC as a possible site for the library was initiated by the EECC Board as part of broader discussions about how to make the most of the shared facility.
What's Changing
The County has proposed moving the Aylmer Library to the EECC. Some people have asked if other locations—like downtown—should also be considered. A public consultation is now underway to gather feedback before any final decisions are made.
Why It Matters
The library is an important space for learning, connection, and community programs. Where it’s located can affect how easy it is for people to visit, how it serves different age groups, and how it supports Aylmer’s downtown or other areas.
How You Can Participate
You can take part in a public survey on Elgin County’s engagement website, Engage Elgin. There will also be a public meeting at the EECC and suggestion boxes placed in public spaces around the community. These are your chances to share what you think.
What Will Be Done With the Feedback
All public input will be shared with County Council, Aylmer Council, and Malahide Council. Your feedback will help guide the final decision about where the Aylmer Library should be located in the future.
