Overview

The Town's budget helps decide how money will be spent on services, infrastructure, and community priorities.

Because 2026 is a municipal election year, the 2027 budget process will occur in two stages. Public engagement and preliminary budget planning will take place before the election, while formal budget review and budget decisions will be completed by the incoming Mayor and Council after the election.

What's Changing

This year's process recognizes the municipal election and the requirements of Strong Mayor legislation.

Before the election:

  • Residents can participate in the budget survey (open June 10 - July 29).
  • Staff will prepare preliminary budget information.
  • Council will receive the survey results and preliminary budget reports.

After the election:

  • The new Council will review capital budget priorities and the remaining budget timeline.
  • The incoming Mayor must propose the 2027 budget on or before February 1, 2027.
  • Public hearings and final budget decisions will follow.

Why It Matters

The budget affects the services and programs residents use every day. Sharing your feedback helps Council understand community priorities and supports informed decision-making for the 2027 budget.

How You Can Participate

Residents are invited to complete the 2027 Budget Survey during the seven-week engagement period.

The survey is an opportunity to:

  • Share your priorities.
  • Provide comments and suggestions.
  • Help shape future budget discussions.

What Will Be Done With the Feedback

Survey responses will be reviewed and summarized by staff.

The results will be presented to Council in August 2026 and will help inform budget planning. The feedback will also be provided to the incoming Mayor and Council to support their consideration of the 2027 budget.
