Council Decisions Regarding the 2027 Budget Timeline

  1. Council receives the report for information about the 2027 budget schedule and process.

  2. The current Council will receive preliminary budget information and staff will conduct public engagement prior to the next term of Council.

  3. Significant budget consideration, public hearings, and statutory budget decisions will occur when the next term of Council is inaugurated.

2027 Budget Timeline

  • May/June 2026 - Approval of 2027 Budget Survey
  • June 10 - July 29, 2026 - 2027 Budget Survey Open
  • August 12, 2026 - Preliminary Capital Budget Consideration, Preliminary Operating Budget Factors Report, Budget Survey Results
  • Early December - Capital Budget PublicHearing and Capital Item Endorsement, Revised Budget Timeline Consideration
  • On or before February 1, 2027 - Mayor to Issue Budget Proposal for 2027; Council has 30 days to amend
  • Before or during statutory budget period - Preliminary 2027 Operational Budget, Consideration and Public Hearing
  • Within statutory period - Final 2027 Budget Amendments; 10 days for Mayot to veto any amendments
  • Within statutory period -Deadline for Mayor to Veto Amendments; 15 days for Council to override any vetoes
  • Within statutory period - Consider Overriding Any Vetoes with 2/3 Majority; Budget to be deemed adopted following statutory timelines expiry
